Mozilla Firefox 4 - faster, more secure, easier to use and sporting a new look, this latest Firefox release sets a new standard for web browser innovation. Mozilla Firefox project (formerly Firebird, which was formerly Phoenix) is a redesign of Mozilla's browser component, written using the XUL user interface language and designed to be cross-platform. New In Firefox 4.0:
* Tabs are now on top by default on Windows only - OSX and Linux will be changing when the theme has been modified to support the change.
* On Windows Vista and Windows 7 the menu bar has been replaced with the Firefox button.
* You can search for and switch to already open tabs in the Smart Location Bar
* New Addons Manager and extension management API (UI will be changed before final release)
* Significant API improvements are available for JS-ctypes, a foreign function interface for extensions.
* The stop and reload buttons have been merged into a single button on Windows, Mac and Linux.
* The Bookmarks Toolbar has been replaced with a Bookmarks Button by default (you can switch it back if you'd like).
* Crash protection for Windows, Linux, and Mac when there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins.
* CSS Transitions are partially supported.
* Full WebGL support is included but disabled by default at this time.
* Core Animation rendering model for plugins on Mac OS X. Plugins which also support this rendering model can now draw faster and more efficiently.
* Native support for the HD HTML5 WebM video format.
* An experimental Direct2D rendering backend is available on Windows, turned off by default.
* Web developers can use Websockets for a low complexity, low latency, bidirectional communications API.
* Web developers can update the URL field without reloading the page using HTML History APIs.
* More responsive page rendering using lazy frame construction.
* Link history lookup is done asynchronously to provide better responsiveness during pageload.
* CSS :visited selectors have been changed to block websites from being able to check a user's browsing history.
* New HTML5 parser.
* Support for more HTML5 form controls.

Phiên bản Firefox 4.0 Beta cuối cùng được Mozilla tung ra trong năm nay có ba cải tiến đáng chú ý: tốc độ duyệt web, chức năng thiết lập đồng bộ dữ liệu qua máy tính và điện thoại di động, nâng cao khả năng tương thích với WebGL (chuẩn web 3D, dùng để chạy các ứng dụng và game 3D ngay trên trình duyệt).

Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 nay hỗ trợ WebGL cho một số lượng lớn card đồ họa tích hợp trên máy tính chạy Windows và cả máy Mac, giúp nhiều người dùng có thêm cơ hội trải nghiệm những game 3D mới sống động trên nền web.

Dù nhanh hơn tương đối so với bản Beta 7 song Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 vẫn chỉ là “đàn em” của Internet Explorer 9 Beta 2, Google Chrome 10 Dev và Opera 11 trên đường đua tốc độ.
Kết quả chẩn đoán với dịch vụ SunSpider Benchmark cho thấy, Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 chậm hơn Google Chrome 10.0.612.3 Dev khoảng 79,9 mili giây.

Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 Giao diện và các bước thiết lập đồng bộ lịch sử duyệt web, Bookmarks, mật khẩu, các thẻ đang mở,... của Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 giữa hai máy tính, hay giữa máy tính với điện thoại di động (gọi từ menu Tools > Add-ons) trực quan và dễ sử dụng hơn.
Ngoài ra, cửa sổ quản lý add-on của Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 (gọi từ menu Tools > Add-ons) cũng trông bóng bẩy hơn trước.
